FROM STAFF REPORTS

Despite being one of the smallest schools playing Group A football in the state, the Colonial Beach Drifters made a big impression in their first year in the Tidewater District.

Senior running back Brandon Foster Jr., who rushed for 1,280 yards and 23 touchdowns, was named Tidewater District offensive player of the year.

Foster proved to be a threat with his arm and hands as well as his legs in leading the Drifters to the district regular season title and a berth in the Group A, Division I playoffs. He completed 6-of-13 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown and caught seven passes for 81 yards and another score.

Foster was also named to the Tidewater District first-team as a running back, kick returner and defensive back.

Drifters coach Jeremy Jack was named District I coach of the year for guiding Colonial Beach to an 8-2 mark in their first year in VHSL play.

Other Drifters on the first-team offense were tackle Steven Taylor, guard DeShawn Viers and wide receiver T.T. Carey.

Foster, Taylor (defensive line) and Viers (linebacker) were joined on the first-team defense by defensive end Nate Galloway and defensive back Terry Bushrod.

Bushrod and Carey were named to the second-team offense at running back and kicker, respectively, while defensive lineman Zach Peltola and linebacker Tim Wilson were named to the second-team defense.
