IRS program recruits people to file returns for the working poor.
Date published: 11/26/2007 Volunteers are needed to help those less fortunate prepare their 2007 tax returns. The IRS tax assistance program is managed by the Virginia Department of Social Services. VDSS Spokeswoman Peggy Friedenbarg says the volunteers assist at preparing locations throughout Virginia. They can do everything from being a greeter to being a tax evaluator or preparer. Freidenbarg says to do the later, volunteers have to be certified. That can be done by either taking an in-person class or learning on-line through the IRS website. Formal training is this and next month. Volunteers will work from January until April. Get more information at www.irs.gov. Listen to Deirdre Blake's story
