Tentative agreement to end writers strike reached. Date published: 11/28/2007 NEW YORK (AP) - After weeks of darkness, Broadway could soon be buzzing with shows again. Striking stagehands and theater producers have reached a tentative settlement to end a strike that has shut down more than two dozen plays and musicals. The settlement came after two days of marathon, all-night sessions and months of negotiation between Local 1 and the League of American Theaters and Producers. Most of Broadway has been dark since stagehands walked out on November 10th. The strike has cost the city millions of dollars in lost income. The discussions have focused on how many stagehands are required to open a Broadway show and keep it running. Both sides were struggling with how much to compensate stagehands to get them to slacken rules that require producers to hire more help than is needed.
