From STAFF REPORTS

Four years of frequent trips to Hershey, Pa. are starting to pay big dividends for Sarah Warlick and Amanda Babineau.

The two field hockey standouts recently competed in the USFHA National Hockey Festival in California where their team went 6-0, and now they are preparing for a five-day trip to train and play games in Germany.

Veteran coach Bill Gaudette of the East Coast Field Hockey National Academy and Training Center forecasts bright futures for both players.

"Sarah can develop into an impact player for a very good James Madison team and Amanda with her speed and skill should receive All-America consideration in a couple of years at Longwood."

Gaudette's U19 and U16 Lightning teams will undergo four hours of intense training with German instructions each day, and are scheduled to play two games each night either at Bremen or Hamburg.

Besides the two local athletes, the U19 squad includes 11 players from Pennsylvania and one each from Maryland, New York and New Hampshire.

Warlick, who attends Colonial Forge, and Babineau, who goes to Mountain View, must raise approximately $1,000 apiece for the upcoming trip.

Gaudette had four teams entered in California event with Warlick and Babineau's squad faring the best, achieving an 11-1 scoring edge en route to the U19 D crown.
