Please do not lengthen the time for auto inspections to two years ["Car safety checks: Is two years too long?" Dec. 19].
The states that have no required inspections are only fooling themselves if they think safety numbers are roughly the same. We are not being realistic if we think insurance rates will not also rise as cars are allowed to be neglected for longer periods of time.
My gosh, just look around in the morning at all of the moving "rat traps" on wheels in this state--and we do have inspections.
