Classical Ballet's 'Nutcracker' scored big
On Dec. 2, I had the pleasure of attending Classical Ballet of Fredericksburg's performance of "The Nutcracker." Over the years, I have seen numerous local productions of "The Nutcracker" and have always enjoyed them as a way to start the holiday season. Classical Ballet's matinee was truly a wondrous and magical display of the art of ballet.
The stage looked absolutely beautiful. The scenery backdrops were delightful, and the adult costumes were elegant. The children were just charming, and the falling snow was indeed a fairytale characteristic.
But let's not forget the most important asset-- the exceptionally talented dancers. The young ladies' grandes jetes and pirouettes were professional; the girls had poise well beyond their years. The pas de deux dancers were not just two dancers sharing the stage; they actually became a harmony of one. All of the performers showed much grace and stage presence.
As I understood, the dancers and their instructors had to leave their studio a few weeks before the show. They were forced to practice without the proper mirrors, flooring, and barres. But, as all professionals claim, "The show must go on!" And that it did.
Despite the hardships, the show was a complete success. Let's give Regina and Vadim Bogomolov, the stage crew, the young dancers, and their parents a great big round of applause.
