An afternoon fire on Morningside Drive in Fredericksburg yesterday damaged a house, but no one was injured, fire officials said.

The fire, which was reported at 1:22 p.m., started on the back porch and spread into the home off Lafayette Boulevard, said Fredericksburg Fire Capt. Mike Jones.

Jones said no one was home when the blaze started. The house sustained about $40,000 in damage, he said.

The family renting the house has found a place to stay while repairs are being made, he said.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
