Foxes remain unbeaten in Battlefield contests

King George built a big first-half lead and cruised to a 52-23 Battlefield District girls basketball win against visiting Spotsylvania last night to remain unbeaten in district play.

The Foxes (11-2, 3-0) totaled 43 rebounds, seven each by Brooke Cobb and Stephanie Watts, and added 19 steals.

King George visits Chancellor next Friday.

Riverbend 39, Albemarle 29

The teams combined for one field and two free throws in the second quarter, but Meredyth Frye's 22 points were enough to lead Riverbend to a Commonwealth District win last night.

Frye finished 11-for-12 from the free throw line and added 14 rebounds and seven steals for the Bears (12-2, 8-0), who visit North Stafford next Friday.

Mountain View outscored Stafford by 10 in the fourth quarter to notch a victory in Commonwealth District play last night.

Gwen Newsome led the Wildcats (12-3, 6-2) with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Marina Fox had 11 points for the Indians.

Mountain View hosts Colonial Forge on Friday.
