Murder suspect captured outside Colonial Beach Date published: 1/22/2008
BY KEITH EPPS A man wanted for a Jan. 12 slaying at a Fredericksburg nightspot was captured early yesterday in Westmoreland County. Brandon Lee Smith, 19, was taken into custody without incident shortly before 2 a.m. at a home just outside Colonial Beach, police said. Smith is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 30-year-old Dasan Ka'Wila Richardson. Richardson was working as a bouncer at Mi Casa Restaurant in Central Park when he was shot twice in the chest with a .45-caliber gun during an altercation involving Smith and others, police said. Fredericksburg police quickly identified and charged Smith in the slaying, but were unable to find him until yesterday. Police said that Smith, also known as "BeBe," is a member of the gang "Pound Property," a gang which operates primarily in Colonial Beach, King George and Westmoreland. Details regarding what led to Smith's apprehension were sketchy yesterday, but city Lt. Eddie Delano said the key tip regarding Smith's whereabouts was received by the Colonial Beach Police Department. Beach police and Westmoreland deputies later went to the house and surrounded the residence. Smith walked out and gave himself up. He was later turned over to Fredericksburg detectives and is being held without bond in the Rappahannock Regional Jail. According to police, Richardson was working for a promoter who had rented Mi Casa for a "hip-hop" event. Shortly after 1 a.m. that morning, Smith was forcibly removed from the building because he is underage and because event sponsors recognized him as someone who had caused problems at prior events. Court records state that Smith returned five to seven minutes later with several other associates and got into a fight with bouncers. Richardson was shot at point-blank range. Smith also has drug trials pending next month in Fredericksburg Circuit Court. Keith Epps: 540/374-5404Email: kepps@freelancestar.com
I think it is great that they caught the Smith kid. I also think that when a person harms another living human being then they should have done to them what they did to the person that they harmed. I hope everyone knows what I am getting at.
look no one needs to blaim the parents for what a kid does its not their fault. hes over 18 he should have known what he was doing was wrong but he didnt care. i was friends with a kid that got killed and his killer didnt get alot of time. that boy will be out very soon! this boy bebe aint gonna get alot of time for killing him!
I hear people saying it is the music thats played. thats bull what do you people think rock and roll music establishments dont have problems. where ya think the local motorcycle gangs hang out. drugs and violence are overwhelming problems all over the country. if people would stop looking the other way and start standing up to these punks and if the police would stop being utelized for speed traps with seven police standing around in one spot then maybe we could catch more of these criminals. R.I.P Dasan.
R.I.P. Big "D" we miss you. The security in local nightspots are expected to maintain a safe environment and thats what Dasan and his fellow security did. He saved lives that night I am proud of the job the security did and the city should be too. Lets keep the blame on where it truely lies on Dasans killer. If there is any headline that should be written it should be "Local Hero killed protecting citizens". I'm just glad VA has the Death Penalty so this "Pound Puppie" gets whats just. an eye for an eye.
Big D
You didnt deserve what happened to you, because some supid kid wants to prove he's tough. SO know look BeBe is going to get what's coming to him. Anyone can buss a gun, but now he has to use his hands and fight like a animal......Everytime you get knocked out Smith, Jus think of my homeboys life you took. So to all the other misguided youth, you better start thinking because time will always catch up to you..... Big D I love you homie.
