Police: Brothers attacked man

Culpeper brothers charged with entering home, pulling knife on resident

Date published: 2/2/2008

BY DONNIE JOHNSTON

Two Culpeper brothers are accused of entering a man's house and holding him at knife-point.

According to town police Lt. Chris Settle, the two suspects entered a home on King Street without permission shortly before 3 p.m. The victim later told police that the two brothers, whom he knew, assaulted him, with the older one holding a knife at his throat, Settle said.

A second person in the house heard the ruckus and confronted the two intruders with a shotgun, demanding that they leave, Settle said.

Police were called and located the suspects' vehicle behind the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall on State Route 229. A Culpeper County sheriff's deputy saw the two occupants flee into some woods, Settle said.

The two suspects turned themselves in at the town police department about 6 p.m. Thursday night.

Justin Culver, 21, of Rixeyville Road, was being held without bail on charges of breaking and entering with a deadly weapon and assault and battery, police said. He is also wanted by Fauquier County authorities on destruction of property and larceny charges, Settle said.

Kenneth Culver, 19, was charged with breaking and entering and misdemeanor assault. His bail was set at $7,500.

The victim was not injured during the incident, which police believe was part of a domestic dispute, Settle said.
