Fiscal irresponsibility has caused downturn

Government's fiscal irresponsibility has caused downturn

The current administration has consistently extolled the virtues of our "vibrant" economy. Now our elected officials are issuing "stimulus checks" to keep us out of recession. What went wrong?

How does the most prosperous country get in this shape? Would any financially sound country borrow $150 billion, mainly from the Chinese, to give citizens making up to $150,000 a welfare check?

Would any financially sound person get a cash advance on their credit card? How could any conscionable country borrow $150 billion for this package and vehemently refuse to spend $35 billion a year to cover the health care cost of 4 million uninsured children?

This administration has amassed the greatest debt in the history of the U.S., all the while saying that Democrats are fiscally inept and that we should avoid their "spend and tax" mentality.

They may be right, but I think they are calling the kettle black. This administration has amassed more debt than all prior administrations combined.

We spend more than $430 billion a year in interest payments alone (more than $1 billion per day) on the $9 trillion of debt (approximately 50 percent of this debt having been accumulated under this administration).

Our president never vetoed one spending package during the Republican-controlled Congress. They cut taxes during wartime. This administration has been allowed to run amok fiscally, getting away with murder.

Let's get our heads out of the sand and not let this happen again with any administration. They work for us; we do not work for them. Let's start holding them accountable and stop lying to ourselves about who is fiscally responsible.

coming due (posted by teacherdude , Feb. 27, 2008 3:43 pm)
The longer we live beyond our means as a nation the more painful the bill will be. Perhaps part is coming due now. I cant help but wonder how much longer the rest of the world will finance our deficit spending. Running into the brick wall at full speed is usually quite painful.

In the 1920s the Republicans dominated the White House and Congress, and succeeded in "gutting" the "obtrusive" federal goverment relying on a corporate culture to police itself - well, when it comes to greed, that doesn't happen. Presto - we get the Great Depression. It swept them from office and brought on FDR and the "New Deal". Reagan tried to destroy the New Deal and came close, but Bush has pushed it to the edge. Let us not forget that bully fascist Tom Delay and how he ruled Congress either.

Guess what buddy, my family makes well over six figures and we are getting a $1,500 welfare check from the government. Ain't that grand. Ask yourself, was this country better off at the end of Clinton's 8 years or the end of Talking Monkey's 8 year. It ain't even close you bunch of..........

Let's add some more facts to Mr. Belcher's statement. 94% of the tax cut went to those making over $200,000 per year. The U.S. has never had a tax cut our history while we were at war. President Bush and the evils around him fingered SSN for almost $1 Trillion bucks, while providing tax cuts to the wealthiest of the wealthy. It ain't a Dem or Pub thing, it is a fricking right or wrong thing. Get your heads out of the sand and start paying attention!
