Abortion diminishes the human community

Date published: 3/8/2008

I would like to give a hearty "amen" to Linda White's March 2 column, "No equivocation: Tell it like it is, World War II-style."

Jesus said you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. Truth is never relative. By its nature, it is always absolute. Otherwise, it is a lie wherein integrity is compromised, making principles and morals meaningless and uncertain. God condemns those who would call evil good and good evil.

When an aborted baby is murdered, its life is cruelly snuffed out, and its death is justified by calling it a fetus.

This miracle of procreation, blessed by God, is just a mass to be destroyed and removed by its progenitors without guilt or consequence.

It is semantically called "choice"--something the precious gift of life does not have and its mother exercises absolutely.

It is ironic that this evil and shameless practice is condoned by a society whose very existence is dependent upon the continuity and sanctity of life.

How long can we live a lie and continue destroying the seed of life without ourselves becoming inconsequential?

John Donne said it best: "No man is an island, entire of itself any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

I absolutely agree, (posted by Kristen , Mar. 13, 2008 2:05 pm)
But the emphasis has to be with our young women, it is their body who will be most damaged with unwanted pregnancies or abortions. In a perfect world, pregnancy would be a 50-50 split responsibility. I'd also like to see more men held to task when creating an unwanted pregnancy. I would have also like it if my husband could have taken half of the feedings of my two boys, but he doesn't lactate...So, as women, we are ultimately responsible for our own bodies and the choices we make with them.

Kristen, some good points but to teach that the buck (posted by lifeisbeautiful , Mar. 13, 2008 1:35 pm)
stops at the child bearer teaches irresponsibility and lack of respect for a woman. And every baby on this Earth has two parents, each one just as responsible for that life as the other. Only if they didn't know where babies come from would they have an argument.

Yes, should have added abstinence, (posted by Kristen , Mar. 13, 2008 11:46 am)
I agree. But that doesn't do much but delay teens by a couple of months. That's great, but BC is a back up measure. And while boys should also be aware of BC, ultimately it is our bodies and our responsibility. The buck stops at the child bearer. It is a simple fact of plumbing that makes females more responsible for BC than males. BC should be standard healthcare. Heck, I'd wouldn't mind if some irresponsible folks were "neutered." We don't need any more crack babies. Depo any one?

Grace, I guess it's the same as someone facing (posted by lifeisbeautiful , Mar. 13, 2008 11:00 am)
a terminal illness. You can never really say what you'd do unless personally faced with that situation. And FYI, carrying a child more than makes up for any labor we go through. When they hand you that child the pain is just a memory. (even w/ a c-section!) Life truly is beautiful.

I'm a man, and I will never experience the feeling of a life growing inside of me. I cannot imagine the horror of rape, and how a child that was a constant reminder growing inside me would feel. It seems like that is the first thing pro-choice folks point out, yet the statistics show that to be a very small portion of actual abortions. If there is a medical reason necessary to preserve the life of the mother, a qualified doctor can be responsible for that decision.
