FROM STAFF REPORTS The University of Mary Washington softball team split a doubleheader yesterday with Catholic, winning the first game, 8-0, in six innings before falling, 4-3, in the nightcap. In the opener, junior Kirsten Rowell allowed two hits, walked one and struck out 10 in six innings to earn up the victory. Kaitlin Petrella and Chaise Moody each drove in two runs In game two, Rowell struck out nine but allowed three earned runs in the loss. The Eagles (14-9) will visit Villa Julie College on Friday in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader. WOMEN'S TENNIS The seventh-ranked Eagles dropped a 7-2 decision to top-ranked and defending national champion Washington & Lee in Lexington. Stephanie Kurti and Courtney Goimarac won their doubles match, but the Eagles trailed after doubles, 2-1. UMW was only able to pick up one win score in singles as Kate Malpeli triumphed at the five seed. The Eagles (10-2) will host Gustavus Adolphus College on March 25. Hickey, Mitchell, Baker Senior center Liz Hickey was named the Atlantic Region women's basketball player of the year by D3hoops.com. Hickey finished her career as the most decorated player in school history, averaging 14.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season. She blocked 509 shots in her four-year career, the most in Division III women's history. Ashton Mitchell and Justin Baker were named to the All-Mid Atlantic region women's and men's team, respectively. Mitchell, who was injured in the first round of the NCAA tournament, averaged 13.2 points and 6.6 rebounds. She was named to the third team. Baker, a graduate student who will receive his MBA in May, averaged 14.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, and earns all-region accolades for the third straight year.
