Local couple's son dies in Iraq
Son of Stafford County couple dies in Iraq

Date published: 4/12/2008

BY KAREN BOLIPATA

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Anthony Lewis Capra of Indian Head, Md., died Wednesday in an explosives-related incident while on his fourth tour of duty in Iraq.

Capra, 31, was the son of Anthony and Sharon Capra of Stafford County. He was the eldest of 12 children.

His sister Rachel Lee of Charlottesville remembers her bro-ther as a family-oriented man who loved life.

"He just loved serving the military ever since he was a little kid," Lee said yesterday.

Capra served in the Air Force for 11 years. His father also was in the Air Force.

James Capra, 26, said his older brother influenced him and two other siblings to join the Air Force. His brother was a mentor, James Capra said, the one who kept in touch with everyone.

"It's like a puzzle," he said yesterday. "Our family is not complete without all the pieces together. He was our oldest brother and kind of an integral part of that."

James Capra, currently stationed in Germany, said he and his siblings were flying into town this week to reunite with their parents.

His brother was known for his sense of humor and the way he cared for the family, James Capra said.

Capra arrived in Iraq in November and was scheduled to return home in May.

He is survived by his wife, Angie, and five children in Indian Head.
