Local workshop on legal rights for disabled people
Friday event focuses on illegally parked vehicles and retail accessibility.

Date published: 4/10/2008

The Disability Resource Center in Fredericksburg is offering a public forum Friday.

Spokesman Shawn Lawrence says they provide resources to many of the roughly 3500 people with disabilities in the Fredericksburg area. People may get access to everything from wheelchairs and advice to assistance with companionship services.

The public workshop is designed to provide information on legal rights, specifically as they relate to mobility. The event is co-sponsored by the Virginia Office for Protection and Advocacy. They will educate on things like illegal parking in handicapped spaces at malls and rights for handicapped access to stores.

The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the Disability Resource Center on Progress Street in Fredericksburg from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30.
