Students are conserving water and electricity.
Date published: 4/21/2008 Students at the University of Mary Washington are doing their part to help the environment by going green and being more aware. They started the partnership with energy provider NORESCO last year. Acting President Rick Hurley says their habits changed. The students have taught one another about energy conservation through conversation and fliers around campus. Through their living space, they have been reminded to be smarter about energy. Results from the university's utility bills show that water use and electric and natural gas use are dropping. The amount of water used for showers has dropped at a rate of 2.7 million gallons annually. Hurley says they have also switched all of the campus light fixtures and bulbs to those that are energy efficient. They have also installed water conservation devices on all toilets, spigots and sinks. Listen to Deirdre Blake's story
