National Distracted Driver Awareness Day; put down that cell phone.
Date published: 4/29/2008 Checking your behavior behind the wheel can help save lives. Janet Brooking of DriveSmart Virginia says that's one of the messages they're sending on Wednesday's national distracted driver awareness day. Some of the distractions range from using a cell phone to eating. Nearly 8,000 people crash every day because they are distracted. Brooking says that people should stay focused, buckle up and obey speed limits. She also says that parents should make sure that kids in the car are occupied to avoid further distractions. A refresher course in road rules and defensive driving is also never a bad idea. Listen to Deirdre Blake's story
