One of the most highly anticipated concert tours of the spring, the Honda Civic Tour, came to DAR Constitution Hall on Wednesday, April 30.
This is the seventh year running for the Honda Civic Tour. This year, the headlining band was Panic! at the Disco, who just released their sophomore album, "Pretty Odd." The Hush Sound, Motion City Soundtrack and Phantom Planet were also on the bill.
The first group to go up was Phantom Planet, who just released their fifth album, "Raise the Dead." Though DAR isn't a particularly dance-friendly venue, that didn't stop this group's adoring fans from shimmying and shaking. The lyrics and melody were quite catchy, but the lights got irritating. Every time band members hit a hardcore chord, blinding lights flashed out over the crowd. These lights were small but powerful, and weren't easy on the eyes.
Next up was The Hush Sound. Their third album, "Goodbye Blues," was released earlier this year. The Chicago-based quartet hit the stage with an upbeat song that allowed fans to clap along. They also played a few of their more popular songs, such as "We Intertwined" and "Red Wine." Lead singer and pianist Greta Salpeter has a velvety voice that really stood out when singing lyrics like "Spin your body around/ Now your feet are gonna hit the ground/ I am going sleepless 'n' you're out of lullabies."
Motion City Soundtrack was the next band to grace the stage. Their third album, "Even If It Kills Me," was released back in September 2007. They kicked off the show with their new single, "This Is for Real." They also played songs like "Last Night" and "Broken Heart" off their sophomore album, "Commit This to Memory." Lead singer Justin Pierre got the crowd to sing along, and showcased his range and ability to hit the high notes.
