Barkley SAYS HE'll PAY gambling debt

LAS VEGAS

--Charles Barkley acknowledged he owes a $400,000 gambling debt to a Las Vegas Strip casino and promised yesterday to repay it after a prosecutor said the retired NBA star faced criminal charges.

"My mistake," Barkley said in an interview at a pro-am golf tournament in Hoover, Ala. "I'm not broke, and I'm going to take care of it."

Barkley was responding to comments by Clark County District Attorney David Roger, who said prosecutors would file a criminal complaint if he did not pay the debt cited by the Wynn Las Vegas resort.

PISTONS' Billups ready to return

AUBURN HILLS, Mich.

--All-Star point guard Chauncey Billups has practiced with the Detroit Pistons and is expected to be ready to play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Billups missed the last two games against the Orlando Magic in the second round with a strained right hamstring. The Pistons will open the conference finals Sunday or Tuesday against Boston or Cleveland.

Cavs' Gibson has separated shoulder

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio

--Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson will miss Game 6 of Cleveland's playoff against Boston tonight after separating his left shoulder during the second half Wednesday night.

Utah's Kirilenko misses practice

SALT LAKE CITY

--Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko missed practice yesterday because of a problem with his visa, a day before Utah hosts the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals.

Agent Marc Fleisher said Kirilenko had to finalize a travel visa for a family trip to France this summer and yesterday was the only day he could do it without having to wait another month.

MUTOMBO ISN'T READY TO RETIRE

HOUSTON--

Dikembe Mutombo still isn't ready to retire.

"I'm going to consider to keep playing basketbal," Mutombo, 42, said in Thursday's online edition of the Houston Chronicle. "My body and my mind is responding to the thrill of the game."
