Keep Beach and county schools separate
I was disturbed to read First of all, that has been tried in the past, and it did not work out for any of the parties concerned. That was I don't believe for one minute that Mr. Rummage thinks this would save the town the amount of money Where is he getting his facts? Does he think the Westmoreland County superintendent is going to assume the job in Colonial Beach without additional help in her office and additional monies to provide Mr. Rummage is barking Mr. Rummage should Did Mr. Rummage not witness what went on at graduation? Did he not see the unity of the town, students, administration, and faculty? The people of Colonial Beach want to maintain our own identity and our own school system. Dee Seeber Colonial Beach
In case anyone was itching to post a "you don't get it, COME-HERE !" reply- I will have four children in CBES this year. I grew up here. I've seen this town go through good times and bad. I just wonder what's going to happen if Maryland doesn't get slots. The only time the Town's ever been truly prosperous on any level is when it had a thriving tourist economy. It hasn't had that in a long time, thanks to the mismanagement of the boardwalk and the anti-business climate created by past councils and mayors.
While I believe Mayor Rummage's proposal is politically motivated-he wants Dr. Howard gone-that doesn't change the reality that one of the poorest counties in the state in per capita income and smallest in population density continues to support two independent school systems ! Why ! If C.B.'s retail/commercial tax base doesn't expand dramatically soon, they will not be able to support ANYTHING, much less their own schools. The town is already drowning in debt and losing more ground financially every year.
