Keep Beach and county schools separate

I was disturbed to read that Colonial Beach Mayor-elect Frederick C. Rummage is suggesting combining school superintendencies of Colonial Beach and Westmoreland County ["Could Beach, county share superintendent?" June 14].

First of all, that has been tried in the past, and it did not work out for any of the parties concerned. That was a different time, and administrative paperwork was not what it is today.

I don't believe for one minute that Mr. Rummage thinks this would save the town the amount of money he says it would.

Where is he getting his facts? Does he think the Westmoreland County superintendent is going to assume the job in Colonial Beach without additional help in her office and additional monies to provide that help?

Mr. Rummage is barking up the wrong tree. He says he is not for consolidating the school systems, but combining the administrations is the first step in doing so.

Mr. Rummage should find another place--not our schools--to save money. The majority of the people of this town want our school here, and want it run by people from Colonial Beach.

Did Mr. Rummage not witness what went on at graduation? Did he not see the unity of the town, students, administration, and faculty?

The people of Colonial Beach want to maintain our own identity and our own school system.
