Face it, VRE just makes sense for Spotsy
The opposition by some members of the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors to expanding VRE to their county is unfortunate ["Spotsy supervisors try to line up board support for VRE," June 16]. Commuter rail would provide an alternative for those who want to avoid driving on congested highways, and is Additionally, passenger rail is one of the most energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and safest forms There is also a misconception that those who use commuter rail are using it only to commute to high-salary jobs. The VRE carries There is also the complaint that only 874 riders from Spotsylvania County use If a VRE station were built in Spotsylvania, it would attract more riders because it would be more convenient I urge the Spotsylvania supervisors to look at other commuter rail systems around the country so they can see the benefit this type of transportation would offer. $12 million for a station for 800 riders is $15,000 per rider. Mr. Rose, thank you for your thoughts but paying $15,000 to make it easier for you and your 799 buddies to go to work is not a good investment. Hey here's a thought. Charge yourselves $10 each per day for parking and pay for your commute yourselves. We won't mind if you pay for your ride to work yourselves. Trust me on this. Would you mind paying for your own ride to work? LOL. I bet you would.
When I parked at the dowtown parking garage (great idea for nasty weather days) it was rarely even close to capacity....parking is available, for a fee. That fee is also much cheaper than paying $10+ a day for parking up north.

The letter write meant it make "cents" for Spotsy county, because the White Elephant Railroad will only creat more tax dollars for the county while the non-874 rides try to figure out how non-sense-ical it would be having this operation in our pockets.
Let's build the VRE in Colonial Beach instead. That way Mr. Rose can pay the higher gasoline taxes instead of us.
