Sex case against teacher advances
Charges against Canadian teacher sent to Stafford grand jury

BY KEITH EPPS Richard John Doucet left his Fredericksburg motel room May 8 planning to get something to eat. All of his meals since then have been in the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Doucet, 36, a teacher at a prestigious private school in Montreal, is accused of coming to this area to have sexual relations with a 13-year-old Stafford boy he'd met online. The "boy" was actually Dumfries detective John Chapman, who lured Doucet here while pretending to be an interested young teen. Four charges against Doucet were sent to a Stafford grand jury following a preliminary hearing yesterday in Stafford Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Another preliminary hearing is scheduled for today in Prince William County, where Doucet faces six more charges. In Stafford, Doucet is charged with attempting to take indecent liberties with a child, reproducing child pornography and two counts of soliciting a minor for sex. Chapman and Stafford Detective Darryl Wells regularly go on the Internet in search of child molesters. Chapman testified that he first made contact with Doucet on Dec. 27 in a Google chat room. Chapman portrayed a 13-year-old boy named David. Doucet used the screen name Boy1996. The initial chats were tame compared to the later ones, Chapman testified. The two talked about such things as soccer and family, part of what Chapman described as the "grooming" process. By April, the chats had become much more graphic. Doucet expressed his sexual fantasies and sent pictures of naked boys to the detective. Doucet often expressed delight in having cybersex with the boy while his girlfriend was in another room. "It's not fair. You're naked and I can't be with you," Doucet wrote in one of the chats. " You're the last thing I think about before bed and the first thing I think about in the morning." Doucet eventually arranged to meet the boy in Fredericksburg on his way back from a teacher's conference in Atlanta. Chapman said Doucet didn't want to come to Stafford because he was afraid the boy's parents might find out. After his arrest, Chapman said, Doucet said he and the boy had planned to play Putt-Putt and the loser had to perform a sex act on the winner. He also wrote a letter of apology to the parents of the "boy" before he was finally informed that the boy didn't exist. Doucet at the time was an elementary school teacher at the Selwyn House in Canada, a private Catholic school for boys. His arrest has been big news in Montreal, where the school is well-known and educates the children of a some high-ranking government officials. Doucet continues to be held here without bond. Because back then, parents actually raised their children themselves and did not depend on a "village" to do it. What other excuses can you come up with why your child has sexually explicit talks with strangers on the Internet? And why stop with cleaning up Canadian streets? What about the injustices in Darfur, Rwanda, Tibet, and a dozen other countries. Our county will rot while you have them save the world. How about entrapping local molesters. They are already here, we don't need to import.

Our teachers are marching on our courthouse steps to beg funds to educate our children. Our major artery is a parking lot half the day. We have zero mass transit here. Our jail is overcrowded. Our streets and bridges need repair. We have practically no parkland. We have our own crime. Taxes are going up while property values and the economy tanks. And you want to play interpol with local money. For all we know, this may have been a first offense spurred by a cop. The only victim here is taxpayers.

There are some real creeps out on the net, prowling the chatrooms looking to hook up with kids to prey on. This guy is allegedly one of them. I for one would rather he show up here to be taken into custody, than show up somewhere else to meet a real 13 year old that winds up with his or her picture on the wall at Walmarts entry. A jury will see the evidence, the chat transcripts and the pictures he sent then make their decision. Prisons have a way of taking care of child molesting scum in less than 86yrs.

`I'm not in a bubble. I'm in Stafford. I pay Federal taxes for an illegal war based on lies. The Feds handle international issues. I want local tax $ to go to local needs, such as roads, schools, and controlling crime HERE in Stafford. That pervert wouldn't be here if he wasn't baited to come here specifically. Now we will pay to support him for his remaining life when he would have otherwise been thousands of miles away from our children. Stupid move, not for the betterment of Stafford at all.

Maybe you should come out of your bubble. If that guy had not been SEXUALLY interested in a 13 year old boy he would not be in this situation now would he. Yes we do have our own problems of overcrowding in jails but come on now any sexual predator deserves an 8x8 cell. No he wasn't trolling he came here with the specific intent to meet a 13 year old boy and he was lured here by the perspective of engaging in sexual activities with a 13 year old.
