Leukemia society holds kickoff event

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is hosting a kickoff event for its fall fundraiser walk from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library's headquarters on Caroline Street.

Campaign coordinator Michael Conlon said 29 teams have signed up so far for the Oct. 4 Light the Night Walk, which will be held at Hurkamp Park in Fredericksburg. Teams can sign up until the walk begins.

At the kickoff event, teams and people interested in signing up will be able to pick up fundraising ideas and hear from a young cancer patient.

"This is an event where we want people to get motivated and hear personal stories about the cancers and walk itself," Conlon said.

The society hopes to raise $650,000 statewide from walks in various communities.

For more information, call Conlon at 804/627-0400, ext. 23, or visit lightthenight .org/va.
