Men charged with theft from RV dealership

Date published: 8/15/2008

BY ELLEN BILTZ

Two Richmond men were charged Wednesday when a Spotsylvania County business became the target of a suspected theft ring hitting RV dealerships.

Justin Young, 32, and Maurice Carter, 33, were each charged with felony vandalism, conspiracy to commit grand larceny and grand larceny in Spotsylvania, said 1st Sgt. Liz Scott of the Sheriff's Office.

She said the men are also being investigated in Hanover County and some North Carolina locales on accusations that they stole electronic equipment from RVs at dealerships.

"Apparently [Carter] had a master key to RVs," Scott said.

The local charges stemmed from a theft Wednesday at about 5 a.m., when Young and Carter were tracked by a Hanover deputy by GPS to Safford RV in Spotsylvania.

They were seen leaving that dealership in a Cadillac by the deputy and were followed to a Richmond address, Scott said.

She said eight big screen LCD TVs were found in their car that had been reported stolen from Safford RV.

The men were arrested and later questioned at Chesterfield County Jail, Scott said, where Carter agreed to speak with police.

She said while Carter has been cooperative, Young, who has an extensive criminal record, has refused to talk with authorities.

Scott said although Carter had a master key, it did not work on some of the RVs at the Safford dealership and windows were broken to get into the vehicles, which resulted in the felony vandalism charges.

Young and Carter are being held at the Chesterfield County Jail, Scott said.

Incorrect Mr Zorro, 'old tvs' will not stop working in 2009... thats just the end of analog broadcast. If you have an old tv connected to a cable box, or a dish unit.. you won't see any difference at all.

LCD's are a hot item. (posted by MrZorro , Aug. 15, 2008 9:09 pm)
Everyone knows that old TV's will stop working in 2009, and an upgrade will be needed.
