Task force formed to restore the Bay

Date published: 8/18/2008 By Chelyen Davis State Sen. Richard Stuart, R-Westmoreland, has announced the formation of a task force to help restore the Chesapeake Bay. The task force, Stuart said in a release, will seek to educate the public on the Bay's problems, and come up with legislative options to help ease Bay pollution. "The condition into which we have let the Bay and its tributaries lapse is nothing less than criminal," Stuart said. "Having grown up on the water and crabbed and fished all my life, I'm afraid now to let my children swim in the Potomac River. This precious watershed must be restored." Stuart said the task force is intended to be nonpartisan. He has already invited local officials, including Rep. Rob Wittman, R-1st, House Speaker Bill Howell, R-Stafford, Del. Albert Pollard, D-Lancaster, and several other lawmakers. Stuart said he wants to get statewide farm and conservation organizations involved, and hopes volunteers will step forward to organize and help operate regional educational workshops. --Chelyen Davis

more useless lip service. As long as people can afford big houses on the water, they can afford lawn services to dump fertilizer on there and straight to the bay.

I came to this area 30 plus years ago and I have seen about that many commissions formed to "save the bay." How is this one going to be any different than all the others. Tax us more or maybe tax us less? If all it takes is hot air and increased taxes we would have the cleanest water in the world.

Quit forming committees that LOOK at the problem. We know what the problem is. If we are going to save the Bay, we need to DO something.

The bay has been dying for many years and "task forces/commissions" have not been able to make an impact. I wish this one all the luck in the world but it is an uphill battle.
