Date published: 8/28/2008
BATTLEFIELD
Coach: Mark Cox
Last season: 9-2 overall, 7-0 district
Top players: Sr. RB/LB Adrian Ingram, Jr. QB Bo Revell, So. DL Zavier Stringfellow.
Outlook: The Bobcats reached the Northwest Region playoffs last season before losing to Woodbridge in the first round. They're experienced and favored to win the district again. Ingram led the team in rushing last season.
LOUDOUN VALLEY
Coach: Danny McGrath
Last season: 3-7 overall, 2-5 district
Top players: Sr. Ian Mottice, Sr. Geoff Holden, Jr. Bernard Thompson, Jr. Chris Daddio.
Outlook: McGrath, a former starting center at Virginia Tech, gets his first head coaching job at 25. He has a major rebuilding job with a young team returning for the Vikings.
OSBOURN
Coach: Steve Schultze
Last season: 4-6 overall, 4-3 district
Top players: Sr, QB/DB Jerell McFadden, Sr. RB/NG Tyler Brown.
Outlook: The graduation of all-state QB Brandon Hogan led to a dropoff from state champion to sub-.500 in 2007. McFadden is the key to Osbourn's bid to return to the playoffs.
OSBOURN PARK
Coach: Brian Beaty
Last season: 2-8 overall, 2-5 district
Top players: Sr. RB Shawn Khanamuenwai, So. QB Dominique Terrell, Sr. LB Mike Noblit.
Outlook: Khanamuenwai led the Jackets in rushing last season. Terrell transferred from Manassas Park, where he started as a freshman and big brother Zach led the Panthers to a Group A, Division I state championship.
STONEWALL JACKSON
Coach: Mike Dougherty
Last season: 4-6 overall, 1-6 district
Top players: Sr. RB/DB Damien Thigpen, Sr. OL/DL C.C. Davis, Sr. FB/LB Aaron Dial, Sr. FB/LB Serrick Lett, Sr. OL/DL Brad Helmick, Sr. QB/DB Jordan Baird.
Outlook: The Raiders will switch to a spread offense under first-year coach Dougherty, who came from Dominion High School. The speedy Thigpen, who has committed to the University of Tennessee, figures to touch the ball 25-30 times a game and be the driving force in their offense.
Coach: Tommy Buzzo
Last season: 7-3 overall, 6-1 district
Top players: Sr. RB Corey Lillard, Sr. OL Kory Gough, Sr. WR Derrick Lee, Sr. LB Damien Dodson, Sr. OL Ryan Grimes, Sr. OL Shawn Otte.
Outlook: The Eagles lost 20 players to Fauquier County's new school, Kettle Run. But while they lack the depth of previous seasons, the cupboard remains stocked with senior leadership.
