LOCAL REACTION TO PALIN'S SELECTION
Quotables

Date published: 8/30/2008

"I think she's a great pick. I think Senator McCain has a reputation of being sort of a maverick in the U.S. Senate and I think this lady is very reform-oriented. She has cut spending in Alaska. She has done some good stuff. She brings a new dimension to the ticket [being a woman with five children]."

--Del. Bill Howell, R-Stafford, House speaker

"As a Republican, I'm thrilled. As a woman, I'm thrilled. As a conservative, I'm thrilled. I think he has flipped change on its head. Foreign policy isn't where he falls short. Sarah Palin brings the executive experience. If having a 5-month-old baby is an issue, then that would have been an issue in her home state where she was governor."

--Susan Stimpson, Stafford County Republican chairwoman

"I think she's certainly not a match for Joe Biden based on what little I know about her. It's probably just an attempt on McCain's team to woo Hillary's supporters away to McCain."

--Opal Stroup, Spotsylvania County Democratic co-chairman

"I guess he figured he's got to go after Hillary's supporters, but I'm glad to see him choose someone not like himself. Because the other candidates didn't go through, she's probably the only one who didn't have any liabilities."

--Harold Bannister, Fredericksburg Democratic Committee

"I think it was a great selection. She's got great executive experience, she's worked her way up and she's got a great family background. She's got a son in Iraq and a 5-month-old infant with Down syndrome. This gives her a unique perspective because she's got a number of children in a variety of situations. I think she brings a lot to the table, with a great perspective on a variety of issues."

--Rep. Rob Wittman, R-Westmoreland

what happened to the bodies of the 40 million babies that were killed

Theobc..So your saying that abortion is (posted by slarrivee , Sep. 6, 2008 5:14 pm)    0 likes
a good thing because it will keep things like chld abuse and unwanted children without caring parents from happening yet even after 40,000,000 legal reported abortions over the last 40 years we still have this stuff happening it's in the news daily. Thats 40 years of killing babies yet the problems persist. Sounds like a real top notch solution to me. There has to be a better way maybe thats what we need to look for.

slarrivee - the spears/kaine post wasn't to you, not every post is about YOU. (posted by theobc , Sep. 6, 2008 12:43 pm)    0 likes
you are the one trying force values on people. you are the one saying whether another person should have an abortion or not. who will take care of all of these unwanted children? there is a little girl missing presumed dead (caylee) born to a mother whose grandmother insisted that the mom have the child and not give it up for adoption. How many children will have to live a miserable life because you think abortion is wrong. have an abortion or have a child who is beaten, neglected or eventually killed?

theobc...Did I actually say anything (posted by slarrivee , Sep. 5, 2008 7:54 am)    0 likes
at all about Gov Kaine ??...The answer is NO...Did I actually ever say a thing about the Spears??..NO...You cry about a soldier dying in a war but how about the fact how the same amount of people were killed in the streets of Chicago as soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan combined between Memorial Day and Labor Day. So citizens in one city in Obama's home state aren't even as safe a folks in two war zones??...You who think you can force values on someone think he's the guy to lead us????

Republican Hypocrisy (posted by theobc , Sep. 4, 2008 11:33 pm)    0 likes
Just a few months ago, the reports ripped Britney Spears sister for being pregnant at 17 and that her mother had failed as a mother because of it, but with the palin pregnancy its a family matter and it should remain private and the public shouldn't comment. when obama was considering gov kaine as vp it was critized because he had been mayor of richmond with a population under 200k, but palin is lauded by these same people for having "experience" as mayor of a town with less than 8k. Hypocrites
