Two Spotsylvania County men were arrested on cocaine charges Thursday after police received an anonymous tip and searched their homes.

Detectives first arrested Lester Leonard, 47, after police stopped him in the early morning hours Thursday while he was driving his pickup, said 1st Sgt. Liz Scott of the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office.

They found more than 3 grams of cocaine inside, she said. Police also searched his home and found a handgun and drug paraphernalia including packaging materials and scales consistent with selling narcotics, Scott said.

Leonard, who has a previous convictions for assault, child neglect and possession of a controlled substance, was charged Thursday with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

After sending Leonard to the Rappahannock Regional Jail to be held without bond, police went to 39-year-old Charles White's home with a search warrant, Scott said.

There, Scott said, detectives found 40 grams of crack cocaine, half an ounce of marijuana, a handgun and more than $2,000.

White was charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, possession of a firearm while possessing cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Scott said.

White, who has previous convictions for distributing cocaine and distributing fake cocaine, also is being held without bond.
