The Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center now has the beginnings of a staff and a place for them to work.
HCA Inc. officials have opened an office in the Lee's Hill commercial complex, near the intersection of U.S. 1 and Interstate 95.
They've also promoted three current employees to leadership positions at the new hospital.
The Nashville, Tenn.-based corporation is building the 126-bed hospital a few miles south of its new office, at the intersection of U.S. 17 and I-95. The opening is scheduled for 2010.
Until then, the company has leased 6,450 square feet of office space in Building 1 at 10300 Spotsylvania Avenue.
"We've got our computers up and our phones connected," said Timothy Tobin, chief executive officer.
The office is mostly empty now. Eventually at least 40 people will work there.
The conference room does have an aerial photo of the hospital site and calendar pages for 2008 and 2009, marking key dates in the construction.
The hiring of department heads will begin next year, Tobin said. The rest of the hospital staff will be hired one to three months prior to opening.
The selection of the hospital's leadership team has already started.
Lisa Seay has been named vice president of development. Sean Thomson has been named chief financial officer, and Terika Richardson has been named chief operating officer. The chief nursing officer will be hired soon, Tobin said.
Seay has worked for HCA since 2005, most recently as director of business development and management engineering for the company's Capital Division.
A lifelong resident of the Fredericksburg area, Seay received an associate's degree in nursing from Germanna Community College, a bachelor's degree in nursing from MCV, and a master's degree in health system management from the University of Virginia.
She has worked for MediCorp Health System, for the Surgi-Center of Central Virginia in southern Stafford and for the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
Thomson joined HCA in 1995 as staff accountant at Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Kentucky. Since then, he has worked for HCA in various positions, including chief financial officer for Retreat Hospital in Richmond.
He has a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Kentucky and is a certified public accountant.
Richardson joined HCA in 2005 and currently serves as the associate administrator of Reston Hospital Center.
Prior to joining HCA, she worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield and North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.
She has a bachelor's degree in biopsychology and cognitive science from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in public health from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
