Four Westmoreland County men face upcoming trials on a total of 58 felony charges resulting from a home invasion, attempted robbery and shooting that left an Oak Grove man paralyzed from gunshot wounds.
Lloyd "Frog" Gorham was shot multiple times in the attack, said Westmoreland Commonwealth's Attorney Dean J. Atkins. One of the defendants, Brandon Lee Smith, is also facing a murder trial this week in Fredericksburg.
Smith, 19, is scheduled to be tried Wednesday in Fredericksburg Circuit Court in the January shooting death of Dasan Ka'Wila Richardson, 30, an employee at a Central Park restaurant.
Smith faces a December trial in Westmoreland on 16 felonies related to Gorham's shooting on Ferry Landing Road in December 2007. Smith is charged with malicious wounding, robbery, grand larceny and multiple firearm and conspiracy counts.
James Lorenzo Tate is scheduled to stand trial Thursday in Montross on six felony counts arising from Gorham's shooting, including robbery, breaking and entering, malicious wounding and gun charges.
Dwayne Edward Stewart Jr. and Jeremiah Demontae Smith are scheduled to be tried together in Westmoreland Circuit Court Sept. 25 and 26. Smith has been charged with 19 felonies stemming from Gorham's shooting. Stewart faces 17.
