Lynn E. Sillitoe

Lynn Elizabeth Karwasinski Sillitoe passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.

Lynn was a teacher at New Directions Alternative High School. With a master's degree in teaching, she served as a mentor to the school's younger teachers. Lynn was nominated by her peers and was a finalist for Prince William County Teacher of the Year.

Her love of life, quick wit and uncanny intelligence made her a much valued member of the New Directions teaching staff. She was an inspiration and highly admired by all her students.

If Lynn had one prayer, it would be this: "We have pushed so many of our children into the tumultuous sea of life in leaky boats without survival gear. Forgive us and help them to forgive. Help us now to give all our children the anchor of faith, the rudder of hope, the sails of education and the paddles of family to keep them going when life's sea gets rough."

Lynn was predeceased by her mother, Gloria Karwasinski. She is survived by her beloved husband, Lee Edward; her sisters, Janell Steinbeck, Pamela Karwasinski, Lori McNulty and Annie Karwasinski; her father, Walter A.; and her many cherished nieces and nephews, who all considered her "My Aunt Lynnie."

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd St., New York, N.Y. 10016.
