UMW suspends sales of Obama rally T-shirts Date published: 9/27/2008 By Dick Hammerstrom The University of Mary Washington bookstore has stopped sales of T-shirts commemorating today's Obama-Biden campaign rally. The university's decision came yesterday after consulting with the Virginia attorney general's office. Mary R. Corbin, executive director of university relations and communications at UMW, said the AG's office was consulted after the school received a complaint. She said the sale of the T-shirts could give the impression of an endorsement of Obama, since the UMW logo is printed on the front. On the back, it reads: "Obama was there, Biden was there, I was there, UMW '08." On Thursday, a university official said the T-shirts were being sold as a fundraiser and that none of the proceeds were going for political purposes. Corbin said about 150 shirts were sold at $9.99. Corbin said that printing the shirts stopped when questions were raised. The majority of the shirts in inventory have no mention of Obama-Biden and can be sold for other purposes. --Dick Hammerstrom

the likes of Chiswald would be screaming bloody murder...as usual, or even a "Mandrake for President" T-shirt or Jockey shorts
The gop must be running scared if they are worried about a few t-shirts at a rally
silly. in the PC world, everyone has a complaint.
Suppose the shirt said 'I attended a political rally at UMW on September 27, 2008' ? Would that have been acceptable?
Too bad 'state funding' doesn't provide enough cash to run the bookstore, and they are forced to raise funds on their own.
I guess they will just have to raise tuition....
UMW endorsing Obama? Wow - I didnt see that one coming.
