FROM STAFF REPORTS The Colonial Forge High School football team will have to play without standout quarterback Blake Frohnapfel for the remainder of the season. The 6-foot-4, 188-pound sophomore suffered a broken left ankle in the Eagles' 28-14 Commonwealth District victory over Massaponax last Friday. Frohnapfel is fifth in the Fredericksburg area in passing yards with 511. He's also thrown five touchdowns. Eagles' sophomore wide receiver Timothy Scott took over for Frohnapfel with the score tied at 14 in the third quarter on Friday. Colonial Forge head coach Bill Brown said yesterday that Scott will start in the team's trip to Albemarle tomorrow. Scott was 1-of-1 passing for 11 yards against Massaponax and he rushed for a 6-yard touchdown. Brown said he's more of a runner than Frohnapfel, a traditional drop-back quarterback. "He's a play-maker," Brown said of Scott. "He was a play-maker [at wide receiver]. I think he will be a play-maker at quarterback." Brown said moving Scott (eight receptions, 96 yards, one touchdown) from receiver is a bit of a loss, but he has a solid group of young players who can fill in there. As for Frohnapfel, surgery isn't required for his injury. And Brown said he's going to be cautious with Frohnapfel's offseason rehabilitation. "With a broken ankle, you can't predict that kind of thing," Brown said of a potential timetable for returning to athletics. "I've had that happen before with kids trying to come back too early and they got re-injured." Brown said he's reminded Frohnapfel that he can come back strong next season. He cited his former pupil at Hylton High School, Ahmad Brooks. Brown said Brooks suffered a broken ankle in preseason of his junior year, but returned and the former Virginia and Cincinnati Bengals' linebacker was named national high school player of the year. "I told [Frohnapfel], 'You can recover,'" Brown said. The Eagles aren't the only district team dealing with a quarterback injury. Mountain View's Jordan King, the area's third-leading passer, went down with a season-ending injury two weeks ago. The junior has been replaced by Peter Onidi. --Taft Coghill Jr. Scroggin weighs options North Stafford senior Ashley Scroggin is weighing four college options to continue her softball career. Scroggin, a first-team All-Area pick at third base for last year's district champions, visited Mount St. Mary's last weekend and hopes to visit Towson in the coming weeks. She's also considering University of Maryland-Baltimore County and Brown. Scroggin said she plans to choose a college by the time the early signing period begins Nov. 12. --Justin Rice POWDER PUFF ACTION Culpeper's first cross-county powder puff football game will be held Nov. 14 at Eastern View High School.
