City man charged after police chase

A Fredericksburg man was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and felony child endangerment Sunday after a high-speed police chase down Interstate 95.

Timothy Bradford Williams, 26, was also charged with felony eluding police and felony hit and run for striking another car in the chase that started just after 7 p.m., said Virginia State Police Sgt. F.L. Tyler.

Tyler said a Fredericksburg police officer saw Williams driving on State Route 3 in Fredericksburg with expired registration on a rental car. When the officer checked the license plate on the vehicle, the car came back stolen, at which time Williams exited onto I-95 southbound.

State police attempted to pull Williams over, but he kept driving until exiting the interstate in Caroline County onto State Route 207, Tyler said.

He said along the way, another car was hit, but no one was injured.

Once in Caroline, Tyler said, Williams lost control of the car and swerved over the left side of the road into an embankment.

He tried to flee on foot, but was apprehended. He was sent to the VCU Medical Center of Virginia in Richmond for treatment and was released, Tyler said.

There were two other passengers in the car. Dayveon Xavier Washington, 23, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was charged with possession of stolen property and felony child neglect. Washington's 2-year-old son was in the back seat of the car during the chase.

how can a passenger be charged with stolen property?..... (posted by Trippletap , Oct. 7, 2008 4:51 pm)
If you know that someone is driving a stolen car and you decide to ride in it anyway, you are then considered "in posession". Just as in a situation where you borrow or use something given to you from a "friend", but you know that ithe item was stolen from someone else, ....just because you didn't steal it yourself doesn't take responsability from you.....you are still in posession of stolen property.
