John McCain's presidential campaign said yesterday that vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is planning a campaign stop in Fredericksburg on Monday.

The campaign said Palin will hold a rally in Hurkamp Park during the day Monday, as part of a three-city tour of the state that will also include stops in Leesburg and Roanoke.

City Manager Phillip Rodenberg said the city is working on a special-event permit for the rally at Hurkamp Park.

He said city staff are working with the campaign to coordinate traffic, parking, notification of businesses and residents that will be affected by the event, and other details.

Palin's visit comes as both presidential campaigns put heavy resources into Virginia, a traditionally Republican-voting state that recent polls have shown is leaning toward Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Obama held a rally last month at the University of Mary Washington, drawing a crowd estimated at 26,000.

Palin and Republican presidential candidate John McCain swung through the state last week, and a Palin rally at Richmond International Raceway drew more than 20,000.

McCain was back in Virginia for a Saturday rally in Woodbridge, and Obama held a rally yesterday in Richmond.

Why Palin and Not Tina Fey? (posted by rrwwsmith , Oct. 25, 2008 9:34 pm)    0 likes
We could have had Tina and some laughs. I thought Governor Palin was testifying in her Ethics Trial on Monday. Oh well.

correction welfare makes up the 4th highest expenditure and was increased by 2% from 2006. Social Security is at the top followed in close 2nd by defense and medicare. Community & Regional Development (mostly earmarks) were 4th from the bottom.

The U.S. has never been a 100% capitalist country. We've always had a mixture of socialist and capitalist policies. One could say that the torture methods Bush let his cronies do is Communist. McCain's plan to revive a Great Depression plan to buy up mortgages is socialistic The wealth distribution that has occured the last eight years has lead to widening of the gap between the rich and poor. A small percentage of taxes go to programs to help the needy. In 2007, 2% went to welfare programs,

Lifeisbeautiful, sorry for the mixup (posted by Aquia33 , Oct. 24, 2008 12:57 pm)    0 likes
Lifeisbeautiful My post referred to "Seriously" posted by downtown3641. I would not want to be associated with that post. My comment was to the poster of "Seriously" and I said: Seriously, you embarrass the area. I guess I should have said: downtown3641 you embarrass the area.
