One of the owners of the family-owned Lee-Curtis, Graves, Freeman and Hall Insurance was arrested Wednesday morning on multiple drug distribution charges.

Robert Curtis Lee, 57, of Spotsylvania, was arrested after Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office detectives executed a search warrant on his home near the Fredericksburg Country Club Wednesday morning, said 1st Sgt. Liz Scott.

Scott said the search turned up more than 42 grams of cocaine as well as marijuana and methamphetamine.

Detectives also seized $500 in cash and a 2006 Volvo convertible. Scott said the cocaine found in the home was worth about $3,500.

The search warrant was obtained after an undercover detective made four different undercover buys from Lee at his home on Vance Drive, Scott said. She said the first three undercover buys were for three grams each of cocaine. That is equivalent to what is commonly known as an "eight-ball," she said, and the detective paid $350 on each purchase. The last buy was for six grams of cocaine.

Scott said the Virginia attorney general's office has been involved in investigating Lee. The investigation lasted about two months, she said.

Lee is charged with four counts of distribution of cocaine, one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine.

He is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail, Scott said.

According to online court records, the only charge ever brought against Lee, before this week, was a summons for speeding.

A Free Lance-Star article from 1980, names Lee, then 28, as the Jaycee's Young Man of the Year. Lee later became president of the organization. Other articles show he was also active as a troop leader in the Boy Scouts.

Another article from 1999 says the Lee-Curtis Insurance company merged with Freeman, Graves and Hall Insurance that year and became the largest independent insurance company in Fredericksburg.
