REGION A, DIVISION 1
Colonial Beach-Franklin preview
Date published: 11/22/2008
FRANKLIN AT COLONIAL BEACH, 1 P.M.
COLONIAL BEACH DRIFTERS
Record: 11-0
Coach: Jeremy Jack
Last Regional Title: 2007
How the Drifters Got Here: Senior QB Dylan Farinet's three TD passes propelled them past fourth-seeded West Point, 42-22. Farinet was 10-of-14 for 148 yards. The Drifters' reliable ground game pitched in with 215 yards on 34 rushes. Travis Cundiff, Jeremy Robinson, Timmy Jackson and Farinet each had more than 42 yards on the ground. Cundiff's 59 yards increased his season total to 1,022 on 149 carries. West Point amassed 356 yards of total offense, but Colonial Beach recovered two fumbles, including one by Russell Fields in the end zone. In the top-seeded Drifters' 28-24 road win over Franklin last month, Farinet completed a TD pass with 1 second remaining following a late Drifters interception.
Did You Know? Colonial Beach is 3-0 against Franklin since the start of last season, including a 40-19 win in last season's regional semifinals.
FRANKLIN BRONCOS
Record: 9-2
Coach: Darren Parker
Last Regional Title: 2004
How the Broncos Got Here: They held third-seeded Sussex Central to only 3 yards of total offense in the second half of a 26-0 victory. Franklin avenged its 32-6 loss to Sussex Central on Halloween. RB Isaiah Hudson had 98 yards and a TD. The second-seeded Broncos have surrendered only 80 points in 11 games this season. Led by DL Tyler Childress, who had two sacks against Sussex Central, Franklin has recorded seven shutouts. Offensively, the Broncos rely heavily on the run. RB Malik Brown had 98 rushing yards and a TD in Franklin's 28-24 home loss to Colonial Beach in early October. QB/DB Donzell Shearin had 59 rushing yards and a TD.
Did You Know? Franklin scored more points (24) against Colonial Beach than any other team has this season.
