Alonzia A. Coe

Alonzia A. "Lonnie" Coe, 56, of Fredericksburg died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.

He was born Jan. 6, 1952, in Alexandria, to William Andrew Coe and Gladys Nina Ledbetter. He attended Patrick Henry High School in Glade Spring.

From 1969 to 1972, he served in the U.S. Army. His service included basic training at Fort Campbell, Ky., eight weeks at Fort Polk, La., 12 months in Vietnam and duty at Fort Carson, Colo. Prior to discharge he received a number of honors, including a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam.

He was a construction laborer and enjoyed playing the guitar and reading. He will be remembered for teaching survival skills, and for always taking care of others before taking care of himself.

He is believed to be survived by a brother, William Wallace Coe; and a daughter, Marie Coe.

A memorial service will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at City Dock.
