Culpeper man stabbed, niece charged Date published: 12/26/2008
BY DONNIE JOHNSTON It was not a good Christmas for one Culpeper family. One family member, a 58-year-old man, is now fighting for his life in a Charlottesville hospital after he was allegedly stabbed by his niece, who now sits in jail. Shortly before 1 a.m. yesterday, Culpeper paramedics were called to a home in the 400 block of East Piedmont Street following a report that a man had fallen. When paramedics and town police Officer Jeff Dodson arrived, however, they found the victim bleeding profusely from a stab wound in his upper thigh, according to a police press release. The man, who police say "was covered in blood," was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery. According to the police, the victim was in intensive care and on a ventilator late yesterday afternoon. His niece, 38-year-old Martha Yvette Carey of the address where the incident took place, was charged with malicious wounding. She is being held without bond. Investigators believe Carey was "arguing and fighting" with her uncle in the kitchen when the alleged stabbing took place. Donnie Johnston:
The assailant took aim at an unusual area of the anatomy. What was she thinking?
For being known as the lowest class place in North America?
