Betsy Carter's Horse Scene Date published: 1/2/2009
EKG Stables at Hill Valley Farm begins its 10-show series Jan. 25. Unlike most show facilities, which have winter and summer show seasons, EKG has one continuous season, so points can be accumulated throughout the year toward one year-end award. All of the shows are Virginia Horse Shows Associated and Battlefield Horse shows Associated, so points at EKG also count toward those associations if you are a member. There is an indoor arena and an outdoor ring for any kind of weather. With 39 classes, there is probably a class to suit your needs, including an entire division for pre-short stirrup and two short stirrup divisions. The classes are offered in a different time schedule. with low coming before maiden, and pony hunter following low, maiden and green. Otherwise the line up of classes is similar to other shows in the area. There is no California warmup, but there are three schooling sessions throughout the day. The show starts at 9 a.m. and classes are $11 each with no other fees. The show dates and judges follow: Jan. 25--Mary Schulte-ShieldsFeb. 22--DeDe Shumate Mar. 22--Edee McGregor April 5--Byrd Rareshire May 17--Michelle Poarch June 7--Shelby French July 19--Clyde Poarch Aug. 2--Kathy Danielson Sept.--Jeff Bradner Oct. 4--Wayne Eubank.
