Motorola introduces 'green' cell phone Date published: 1/7/2009
LAS VEGAS --Going after customers who think green, Motorola will introduce here this week a cell phone made entirely from recycled plastic water bottles. The Moto W233 Renew is being called "the world's first carbon neutral cell phone." This could bring new meaningAll is not doom and gloom at the giant annual International Consumer Electronics Show expected to attract a crowd of 130,000 here this week, despite the economic thunderclouds. Because of the economy, that's about 10,000 fewer attendees than last year, but a bottle of water is still going for $4, Today is press preview day, but some interesting tidbits already were leaking out yesterday. HP is expected to unveil an "all-day" Mini 2140 ultraportable netbook PC that will run for eight hours between charges. Most laptop users are lucky to get three hours' use before a charge. The Mini 2140 is expected to sell for $499. Yahoo! and Intel will premiere their joint Internet-enabled TV prototypes.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at CES today that will focus on his company's new desktop operating system, Windows 7, and begin to back away from the Vista operating system that has been a disaster for Microsoft. He is not he expected to say much about ZunePhone, Microsoft's rumored answer to Apple's iPhone. Struggling Palm is expected to introduce its new Nova mobile operating system and a handset that runs it. CES officially starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday, but companies will be trotting out new products all this week--with major announcements expected from Cisco, Sony, Toshiba and others that are holding press conferences at Press Day today.
