Harry Elms

Harry "David" Elms Jr., 62, of Triangle passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Potomac Hospital after a brief illness.

David was born to Harry D. and Elaine B. LaVoy Elms on Nov. 30, 1946, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He graduated from Augusta Military Academy, Fort Defiance.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969 and reached the rank of sergeant 1971. After his service, he worked in the family business, The Marine Shop, Quantico, a world renowned Marine Corps uniform shop, for over 20 years as store manager and treasurer. Thereafter, and until his passing, he operated and owned All American Awards, in Stafford County and Triangle, specializing in awards, trophies, military and personalized shadow boxes, and individual medal and ribbon mountings.

In addition, he was an active member of the Marine Corps League and was past commandant of the Mickey Finn Detachment, Quantico, where he enjoyed its camaraderie and devoted countless hours to its operation.

He is survived by his three children, Pamela Michele Watson and her husband, Rick, of Dunnellon, Fla., Scott McLeod Elms of Richmond, and Tiffany Elaine Elms of Thomasville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Derek and Jake Watson, and Kristen and Hunter Elms; his mother, Elaine B. Elms of Alexandria; his sister, Pamela J. Elms Scott of Punta Gorda, Fla.,; his brother, Stephen M. Elms of Stafford, and Tampa, Fla.; his niece, Tammy Mosco of Fredericksburg; two great-nephews, Jack and Jimmy Kreger; and fiancee Regina Hatter of Triangle.

He was predeceased by his father, Maj. Harry D. Elms Sr.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home in Stafford. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, with interment immediately following in Quantico National Cemetery.

Friends are welcome to gather to continue the celebration of his life at the Mickey Finn Detachment following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mickey Finn Detachment, Marine Corps League.
