As Colonial Forge dominated the Commonwealth at last Saturday's district championships, Fauquier did likewise against the Cedar Run. And that should make this weekend's Northwest Region championships more interesting than usual. Colonial Forge has won seven straight region titles, but Fauquier looks like the best challenger the Eagles have faced at this meet in some time. "I think it's going to be interesting and close," Colonial Forge coach Bill Swink said. "Any time you have a team race, it makes things a little more exciting." The Falcons and Eagles are strongest in some of the same weight classes. Both schools won district championships at 103, 125, 135, 140, 145, 152 and 160 pounds. And Fauquier's 112-pounder, Ryan Hunsberger, was second at the Cedar Run meet. Hunsberger lost in the Group AAA 103-pound state final last year. The Eagles and Falcons have wrestled twice this season. At a season-opening duel meet, Colonial Forge topped Fauquier, 37-31. But at the premier Beast of the East tournament in January, Fauquier was 12th and Colonial Forge 16th. The Northwest Region Championships begin today at Fauquier High School at 4 p.m. Wrestling continues tomorrow at 10 a.m., with semifinals set for noon and the finals at 6 p.m. E-mail high school notepad items --Justin Rice
