Blood trail left at Stafford burglary leads to arrest
Blood left at scene leads to arrest in 2007 Stafford burglary case.

BY KEITH EPPS Blood left behind when a burglary suspect fell and cut himself during a 2007 break-in resulted in an arrest this month, court records show. Kevin Allen Hewlett, 23, of Sumerduck is charged with multiple offenses as the result of a Dec. 31, 2007, break-in at a Stafford County store. According to an affidavit for a search warrant filed in Stafford Circuit Court, a Chevrolet truck backed up to the Handy Mart at 1186 Warrenton Road after the store was closed. Two men got out of the vehicle, and the driver smashed the front glass door with a sledgehammer. Both suspects then entered the store and tried to take the ATM machine near the front door, according to the affidavit. An employee who was sleeping in the store woke up and confronted the startled suspects, who then ran out of the building. One of the suspects slipped on the broken glass and cut himself, leaving blood on the floor and in the parking lot. The bleeding suspect was seen getting into the driver's seat of the truck by the store surveillance camera, and the suspects left the scene. The blood was collected from the floor and from the stolen truck, which was recovered later that day in Stafford, court records state. The state lab recently informed Stafford Detective T.S. Martin that a DNA match came back to Hewlett, a felon who is in the state database. Hewlett is charged in Stafford with grand larceny, two counts of burglary and two counts of destruction of property. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 13 in Stafford General District Court. It was not clear last night if the other suspect has been identified or charged. Keith Epps: 540/374-5404

Be glad you weren't stuck all that time watching commercials Sahmom! It is a shame that it took awhile, but it is great that they got someone with some pretty strong evidence!
It took over a year for those results???

With CSI, it only takes minutes. Wonder how many other thefts occured by this guy while his blood was being analyzed
