Paul C. Mitchell, 67, of Fredericksburg went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 16, 2009.

Born in Spokane, Wash., he was the son of the late Donald and Sylvia Kemmish Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from the University of Washington, and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Washington School of Law.

He later received his LL.M degree from the George Washington University School of Law. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and in 1981, was named Air Force Civilian Attorney of the Year. He had a 40-plus year distinguished career with the U.S. Government as a Procurement Law Attorney.

Mr. Mitchell was a Christian; a humble man who deeply valued his relationship with Christ, and attended Calvary Chapel of Fredericksburg. An avid outdoors-man, he enjoyed canoeing, hiking, and mountain biking, kayaking, swimming and skiing.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Diane Mitchell; son Chris Mitchell; daughter Kristin Hughes and her husband, Doug; grandchildren Devin, Ryan and Sarah Hughes, and Nathanael and Jack Mitchell; brother David Mitchell; sister Lynette Kessler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in the chapel of Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania, with Pastor Mark Ramirez and Pastor John Hinson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
