On March 12, CNN reported online that Veterans Affairs Secretary and retired Gen. Eric Shinseki had confirmed that the Obama administration was considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for service-related injuries with their private insurance, which assumes they have it. The plan was to be incorporated into the 2010 budget. On March 18, the Obama administration reversed course on the plan. Thankfully, Congress had let the administration know that any such legislation proposed by the Obama administration would be dead on arrival. Although correctly rejected, the plan proposed by the Obama administration begs two greater questions: 1. There is no citizen of this great nation who deserves government-paid health care more than an injured veteran, whether his injury is combat-related or training-related. Government-provided health care for injured veterans must be honored. By proposing this plan, the Obama administration has sent a deleterious message to our active and reserve military, many of whom have persevered through multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. What was the administration thinking to even contemplate such a plan? 2. President Obama has proposed national health care, including a $635 billion "down payment," yet simultaneously proposed compelling injured veterans to use private insurance, assuming they have it, for service-related injuries. Abject hypocrisy. What was the administration thinking? Our commander in chief and most of his administration are non-veterans. Do they truly understand and support the grassroots military? You cult followers spend so much time chanting obama that you fail to forget that obama never served and that obama deliberately tried to rip off American vets and got caught. Now he can't. No thanks to obama. Thank you VETS.
I'm glad you're a decent American trying to save a cult follower such as myself by explaining how Obama hates vets.
Otherwise Obama would not have stuck a proposal in Obama's budget bill to make VETS pay their own medical care for injuries incurred while serving our country to pay for Obama's new medical plan for people likely to vote for Obama. Obama has to hate VETS to treat them this way. And Chiswald, your Obama was going to do it until Obama was exposed and realized that even you Obama cult followers were not going to save Obama's butt on this one from the wrath of decent Americans who care about VETS.
A private health care provider would not even think about adding a veteran on to their plan! To costly and a big risk! Obama is NUTS! We need to take care of our troops!
All DoD employees (including the military) are paid through the US Treasury (currently headed by a tax cheat). These funds come from income taxes. Ironically, the money used to pay the military is money collected from them in part through income taxes. More middle class military members = more income taxes. Is there another definition without using the phrase (in whole or in part or through implication) "What about Bush?".
