Hug-a-Hero dolls go to New York

Operation Hug-a-Hero, which provides dolls for children of military parents, is scheduled to appear on the "Fox & Friends" show tomorrow in New York City.

Hug-a-Hero hopes to give away 1,000 dolls during April, month of the military child, said Tricia Dyal of North Stafford, who founded the group in 2005 with Nikki Darnell of Fredericksburg.

Also known as Daddy Dolls, Operation Hug-a-Hero produces 12- and 17-inch dolls with pictures of dads--and moms--scanned onto the fabric. When a parent is deployed, children can cling to the dolls with their parent's likeness during stressful times, Dyal said.

Through donations, the organization has given thousands of dolls to families who couldn't afford them. Information is available at operationhugahero.org.

Sealston complex plans first event

The new Sealston Sports Complex in King George County will host its first event tomorrow unless it rains too hard.

The Little League's Challenger Division will host King George Little League Gives Back, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The free event is open to the public and includes games, food, music by King George High School students and an appearance by the Baltimore Orioles' mascot.

Participants are asked to donate items to the King George County Food Bank and/or gently used sports equipment.

The complex is next to Sealston Elementary School, off State Route 3. If the event is rained out, notice will go out on the county's alert system and radio stations.
