Scott Boyd, chief of staff of the Sons of Confederate Veterans' Matthew Fontaine Maury Camp in Fredericksburg, said photos of the 2007 excavation work at the former Maury School showed workers did not dig deeper than 12 to 18 inches. He said this would not have disturbed the graves of the 51 Confederate soldiers, who were buried deeper. A story last Sunday incorrectly reported his comments about the depths of the graves.
