Virginia J. Williams
Mrs. Virginia Johns "Jenny" Williams, 79, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Brian Center, Low Moor, near Covington. She was the wife of James Anderson "Jimmy" Williams, who preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Beury in the New River Valley, W.Va., the daughter of the late John Llewellyn Johns and Georgia Dorsie McClaskey. After graduating from Montgomery High School, she went to the Alleghany Highlands in 1948 to attend the C&O Nursing School and graduated with her nursing degree. She worked as a plant nurse at Westvaco Inc. for 38 years. Jenny loved to read, and in 1996 she became a member of the Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society, serving as historian in recent years. She enjoyed endless hours of research, reorganizing and indexing the records in book form. Jenny also researched her family history as well as Jim-my's, documenting family facts of many generations. Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Karen W. Chichester and husband John of Reedville; a sister-in-law, Pattie W. Charles of Clifton Forge; a stepgranddaughter, Holly Chichester of Charlottesville; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, in Cedar Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Fleenor officiating. Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions to the Charles P. Jones Memorial Library, 406 W. Riverside Avenue, Covington, Va. 24426, the Alle-ghany Highlands Genealogical Society, 1011 North Rockbridge, Covington, Va. 24426, or a charity of one's choice.
